Retirement is supposed to be some of the best years of your life. If you’re struggling to make ends meet, then every day can feel like a battle to survive. Not every senior can find meaningful employment to manage their finances.
If you’re struggling with your income, or if you’re living on Social Security only, then here are some of the ways you can get the help you need.
Best Programs for Low-Income Seniors
If you’re struggling to pay for basic essentials, such as medicine, food, or utilities, then you may qualify for up to 15 different federal-level government programs. A program from the National Council on Aging, called Benefits CheckUp, will help you determine if you qualify for programs in your area.
Since its founding, almost 7 million people have discovered over $1.8 billion in benefits. To see if you qualify, visit their website at: https://www.benefitscheckup.org
For those who have an entrepreneurial spirit, joining the ranks of the self-employed can be a way to ease financial worries. More than 20 million seniors in the United States are at risk for running short on their income.
The AARP Foundation runs a program which helps you discover how to work for yourself as a senior. Workshops, toolkits, and access to lenders are just some of the options available through this program. More than 8,000 seniors have become self-sufficient with income they’ve earned after using this program.

Dental Lifeline Network
Medicare offers limited benefits for dental work unless you’re in the Advantage Plan. For low-income seniors, that often equates to a lack of access. This network offers seniors access to 15,000 volunteer dentists, along with more than 3,000 volunteer labs, to receive the dental work that seniors require.
Anyone with a diagnosed disability or is medically fragile may qualify for this program as well. To learn more, visit their home page: https://dentallifeline.org/home
AARP: Daily Money Management

The weatherization assistance program helps low-income seniors improve the energy efficiency levels of their home. This allows seniors to reduce the amount they pay each month on their utilities.
